Who can attend Ridgewood Community High School?
Ridgewood Community High School is a special school for young people aged 11 to 19 years (Years 7 to 14) who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The school primarily supports pupils whose main area of need is generic learning difficulties, including conditions such as Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
How do I apply for a place at Ridgewood?
Places at Ridgewood Community High School are commissioned and allocated by Lancashire County Council (LCC) through the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process. Ridgewood cannot offer places directly to parents or carers.
If you believe your child may require a special school placement, you should discuss their needs with your child's current school, SENCO, or Lancashire County Council's SEND Team. Where appropriate, an EHCP assessment may be requested or, if your child already has an EHCP, their placement may be reviewed.
As part of the consultation process, Lancashire County Council will identify and consult with suitable special schools. Ridgewood will review the information provided and consider whether the school can meet your child's identified needs and deliver the provision outlined in their EHCP. Families may also be invited to visit the school as part of the consultation process.
Please note: A placement at Ridgewood is subject to Lancashire County Council naming the school in a child's EHCP, the school's ability to meet the child's needs, and the availability of places within the relevant year group.
Can I visit the school?
Yes. Families are normally invited to a non-prejudicial visit (NPV) as part of the admissions process. If the school believes it may be able to meet a pupil's needs, a further visit can be arranged involving the pupil, parents or carers, and other relevant professionals. These visits provide an opportunity to see the school, meet staff, and discuss the support available.
What support does my child receive?
All pupils receive support that is tailored to their individual needs as identified in their EHCP. Before admission, the school carefully reviews information from professionals and families to ensure it can provide the appropriate provision. Initial assessments are completed during the first half term after admission, which may identify any additional support required. Pupils' progress and provision are reviewed regularly, including through annual EHCP reviews.
