PSHE

PSHE at Ridgewood

Our PSHE curriculum is designed to help every learner develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and self-belief they need to lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.

We use the Jigsaw PSHE programme as the foundation of our curriculum, drawing on both the 3–11 and 11–16 pathways to meet the wide range of developmental needs within our school. Learning follows a spiral approach, allowing important concepts and skills to be revisited, reinforced and developed over time.

The curriculum is organised through the six Jigsaw themes of Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me.

PSHE is not confined to one lesson each week. Learning is reinforced across school life through assemblies, Preparation for Adulthood, Careers, enrichment, community experiences, social times and the wider curriculum.

Our PSHE curriculum helps learners to understand themselves, build positive relationships, make informed choices and participate safely and confidently in the world around them.

Learners develop understanding of their emotions, health and wellbeing, relationships, rights, responsibilities and personal safety. They learn how to communicate their needs and preferences, make choices, recognise trusted adults, seek help and develop the confidence to speak up for themselves.

Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education form an important part of our PSHE curriculum, with a strong emphasis on consent, personal boundaries, body autonomy, healthy relationships, online safety and recognising when something does not feel safe.

Preparation for Adulthood is central to our approach. Learners develop skills linked to independence, community participation, relationships, health, decision-making, financial understanding, future education and employment.

Ultimately, our PSHE curriculum aims to give every learner the confidence, resilience, self-awareness and independence they need to stay safe, build positive relationships and participate as actively as possible in adult life.
